Skin Care Tips to take you from Spring to Summer

As the temperature is rising, letting us know that summer is upon us, you’ll need skin care tips that will take you from spring all the way through summer.  Drinking water, applying sunscreen and making sure to exercise are the essentials as the weather begins to heat up but it goes way deeper than just those basics.

Regrettably, the blooming flowers and flawless weather come with a price, specifically sun damage to your skin.  Dermatologist, Christopher Conner, is confident that there are numerous methods to keeping your skin healthy and protected from sun damage during the spring and summer months.

It is common knowledge that sunscreen needs to be worn any time you’re in the sun to guard your skin against damaging heat rays. However, Conner said sunscreen is completely ineffective if it’s not being used the right way.  Simply applying sunscreen without thought may not help you protect yourself.

In other words, if you just put on a little bit of sunscreen and forget about it for the rest of the day, it is not going to protect you very much after three hours.  In addition, you have to apply sunscreen at least 15 to 20 minutes prior to going in the sun if you want it to work.  If you wait until you’re lying in the sun, you’re going to have an extra 15 or 20 minutes of sun exposure with no protection at all.  This might not seem like a lot, but depending on the time of day, it can be too much sun exposure.

If you already know that you are not going to bother applying sun protection correctly and you don’t want to stop in the middle of your activity to reapply sunscreen, then maybe special sun protective clothing is your best choice.  The greatest substitute for sunblock is wearing clothes that will protect you from the sun. There are many options when it comes to finding low-priced clothing that will keep you cool and protected from harmful sun rays.

Is all suntanning harmful to your skin?

Dermatologists recommend that you don’t try to tan by laying in the sun or even by using a tanning bed.  There are just too many possible risks to your health.  Some studies say that tanning beds are as dangerous as smoking.  And if you think about it, there isn’t any quantity of smoking that is considered harmless, and the same holds true for tanning beds.
